Abbaye Saint-Michel de Kergonan
Plouharnel Morbihan Founded in 1898
Abbaye Saint-Michel de Kergonan, in Brittany, in the heart of Morbihan, between the entrance to the Quiberon peninsula and the Carnac alignments, is home to a community of Benedictine nuns belonging to the Solesmes congregation. Founded at the end of the 19th century and placed under the patronage of the archangel Saint Michael, the community, now made up of twenty nuns, lives under the Rule of Saint Benedict in an existence entirely devoted to contemplation and divine praise, within a strict enclosure. Their primary activity is liturgical prayer, in Latin and Gregorian chant, extended by lectio divina, the study of doctrine, mental prayer, and manual work.
Situated between the Bay of Quiberon and the Gulf of Morbihan, in a setting marked by sea air and the rhythm of the tides, the abbey invites you to slow down and savor silence. The nuns invite you to immerse yourself in the ocean of the Church's prayer and to let yourself be carried by the waves of Gregorian chant.
