Nestled in the hills, twelve centuries of prayer

Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Lagrasse, in Occitanie, is home to the Canons Regular of the Mother of God, a community founded in the 1970s that has been established since 2004 in a place founded by Charlemagne in 779. Thirty-four religious live the canonical life here under the Rule of Saint Augustine, centered on common life in charity, liturgical prayer and the chanting of psalms, and apostolic work.

Nestled in the hills, bordered by the Orbieu river and facing the village of Lagrasse, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, the abbey bears witness to more than 1,200 years of history and prayer. Throughout the year, the canons welcome retreatants in their restored guest house: families and individuals seeking renewal find an atmosphere of peace, calm, and prayer in a welcoming setting at the heart of the Pays Cathare.
