Monastère des Dominicaines de Dax
Dax Landes Founded in 1863
Between Bayonne and Mont-de-Marsan, in the Gascon city of Dax, in the Landes, the Dominican Sisters' monastery is a vibrant place animated by around twenty nuns. Founded in 1863 by Dominican Sisters from the monastery of Nay, the community today numbers twenty-three religious women from all corners of France and the world. As daughters of the Order of Preachers founded by Saint Dominic, they follow the Rule of Saint Augustine and lead a fraternal life centered on work and prayer.
Although located in the city, the monastery offers a pastoral setting, with its cloister of orange-tiled roofs characteristic of the Southwest and its garden. The Sisters produce a whole range of monastic products: cakes, cookies, shortbread, and old-fashioned pastries, as well as hosts, rosaries, and bookbinding work. You are warmly welcome to come and find renewal in this haven of peace and prayer.
