Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey
Le Mont-Saint-Michel Manche Founded in 966
Between earth and sky, a time for contemplation
A thousand-year-old landmark of monastic life and pilgrimage, Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey rises in Normandy on a rocky islet at the heart of a bay with the greatest tidal range in Europe. Owned by the French state and managed by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, it has been home since 2001 to the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem. Two communities, one of monks and one of nuns, gather three times a day for sung polyphonic prayer, at the crossroads of Western and Eastern Christian traditions, living a life of contemplation at the heart of the contemporary world.
The brothers and sisters welcome visitors and pilgrims, inviting them to pray alongside them, and take great care in receiving those who wish to experience a true retreat, a time of disconnection and spiritual renewal. Around your stay, you can also cross the bay with a guide, explore the village and ramparts, or discover the surrounding shores. The guest master will be happy to advise you.
