Sainte-Claire Monastery of Cormontreuil
Cormontreuil Marne Founded in 1220
Just outside Reims, in Cormontreuil, the Sainte-Claire Monastery is home to the Poor Clares, a contemplative order founded by Saint Clare of Assisi and present in Reims for over 800 years. Founded in 1220, this community is the first Poor Clare monastery in France. Re-established in 1933 and relocated in 2000 to modern buildings, the sisters live according to the Rule of Saint Clare, in a spirit of fraternity, simplicity, poverty, and joy, shaped by communal prayer. Committed to the "green monastery" initiative, they give particular attention to integral ecology.
In a simple and peaceful setting, between city and nature in the heart of Champagne, the sisters welcome anyone seeking silence, peace, and renewal for a spiritual retreat that alternates communal prayer with times of solitude. Located along the Via Francigena and the Camino de Santiago, the monastery also regularly receives pilgrims.
