Sanctuary of Rocamadour

A jewel of the Haut-Quercy region, clinging to a cliff 150 meters above the Alzou valley, the Sanctuary of Rocamadour, in the Lot department, is a major Marian pilgrimage site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful villages in France. For nearly a thousand years, pilgrims from around the world have come to venerate the Black Madonna, Our Lady of Rocamadour, sheltered in the dim light of her chapel. As early as the 12th century, the site was counted among the four great Christian holy places, alongside Jerusalem, Rome, and Santiago de Compostela.

The medieval and religious city brings together the Notre-Dame chapel, the Saint-Sauveur basilica, the Saint-Amadour crypt, and the seven chapels of the sanctuary. On the route to Santiago de Compostela, in the heart of the Causses du Quercy, it welcomes both ordinary visitors and pilgrims who come to walk toward Our Lady and find renewal at this iconic site in the Dordogne valley.
