Taulignan Monastery
Taulignan Drôme
Carried by song, in the scent of lavender
The monastery of La Clarté Notre-Dame, in Taulignan in the Drôme provençale, is home to Dominican nuns who follow the charism of the Order of Preachers, founded by Saint Dominic in the early 13th century. Nestled among vineyards and lavender fields, in the diocese of Valence, 35 km from Montélimar, it houses a community that leads a life both withdrawn and open to the world: liturgical prayer, work, study of the Word of God, silence, and time for conversation. The sisters also grow organic aromatic plants and produce essential oils, hydrosols, and herbal teas, in an approach to ecological conversion inspired by Laudato Si'.
In this setting that invites recollection, hiking, and relaxation, the nuns warmly welcome anyone who wishes to pause, pray, study, and take time to live quietly while enjoying nature. Their liturgical prayer, the heart of their life, is open to all, and many retreatants speak of the benefits of this time of renewal.
