Celebrating the Black Madonna at Douvres-la-Délivrande
Every year, on the Thursday following August 15, the faithful gather in large numbers at the Basilica of Douvres-la-Délivrande (Calvados) to celebrate the Black Madonna, with the procession through the streets of the town as the highlight of the day.
A moment of sharing and devotion, the procession of the statue accompanied by hymns is a must for anyone passing through Douvres-la-Délivrande.
We are located about a hundred meters from the Basilica. We offer accommodation and meals.
Programme
Friday the 21st:
8:30 PM Marian vigil at the basilica
Saturday the 22nd:
- Mass at 10:30 AM,
- rosary at 2:30 PM,
- procession of the Black Madonna at 3:00 PM through the streets of Douvres,
- final blessing on the forecourt.
Getting there
Caen train station then bus with the stop in front of the house
Via A13 from Paris toward Caen and A84 from Rennes
Clearly the best option for then exploring the region around the convent
