A retreat within the framework of prayer and praise at our Benedictine abbey

Each day, teachings given by the nuns allow participants to discover Benedictine spirituality, characterized by liturgical prayer and Gregorian chant, lectio divina and contemplative prayer, fraternal community life, and manual work.

Each day is structured around Mass and the liturgical Offices.

There is an opportunity to meet with a priest or to speak with one of the nuns.

Programme

Saturday, October 17

  • Terce and Mass at 9:10 a.m.
  • 10:45 a.m.: 1st conference
  • Sext at 12:20 p.m. followed by lunch
  • None at 2:15 p.m.; followed by the 2nd conference
  • Manual work with one of the nuns
  • Vespers at 5:15 p.m.
  • Compline at 7:45 p.m.

Sunday, October 18

  • Sung Lauds at 6:00 a.m.
  • Terce and Mass at 9:45 a.m.
  • Sext followed by lunch at 12:25 p.m.
  • None at 2:00 p.m. followed by the 3rd conference
  • Vespers at 5:00 p.m. followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
  • Compline at 7:45 p.m.

Practical information

Practical details

  • Please bring a Bible and something to take notes with.
  • Retreatants stay in the guest house (Sainte Anne).
  • Bed linens and towels are provided, but those who prefer to bring their own are welcome to do so.
  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are shared in a convivial atmosphere. Dishes are prepared by the Sisters in the enclosed kitchen and brought out by the guest mistress. Meals are enjoyed with other guests in the guest house dining room. Help with washing up is appreciated.

Suggested offering

  • The teachings are free of charge.
  • Accommodation costs are according to each person's means and are to be arranged with the guest mistress.

Getting there

Train

Argentan station is less than two hours from Gare Montparnasse, on the Montparnasse-Granville line, as well as the Caen-Le Mans-Tours line.

Car

The abbey is less than 3 hours from Paris, and about 1 hour from Le Mans and Caen.

Bike

A lovely ride through the heart of the Suisse Normande region, with its lush green valleys.
