Sing for the Lord: a singing retreat in the rhythm of monastic life
For women and men aged 18 to 40. No musical skills required. All you need is a love of singing!
A few days to sing and pray
Three goals:
Experience a time of fellowship by sharing the joy of singing
Deepen one's relationship with God
Find renewal and momentum before the new season begins
… in one project: preparing together, young people and Benedictine sisters, the choral animation of the Sunday liturgy on August 23, while making the connection between songs and the Word of God, and entering into the monastic rhythm of prayer.
The singing retreat is offered by the Benedictine nuns of Notre-Dame du Calvaire de Bouzy-la-Forêt (Loiret) and Prailles-La Couarde (Deux-Sèvres), with Carole Matras, singing teacher.
Programme
Praying and sharing through song:
- participation in the liturgical offices,
- physical and vocal work,
- learning a varied repertoire (in French and Latin) in preparation for the Sunday liturgy.
Drawing from the well of Scripture: each morning, teaching, sharing, or communal prayer based on biblical texts connected to the songs being learned.
Listening personally to the Lord:
- each evening, a time for personal prayer and heart-to-heart conversation with God,
- the opportunity to meet individually with a sister.
Practical information
- Location: Monastère des Bénédictines in Prailles-La Couarde (Deux-Sèvres)
- Accommodation in a single room or possibly a double room
- Meals on a full board basis
- Please bring: a Bible, and if applicable a musical instrument, bed sheets (or a sleeping bag), and towels
