A summer of work

The Work Retreat is a time of retreat with participation in various outdoor or indoor tasks according to each person's strength and skills.

The goal is to learn to savor God's Love through prayer, work, and simple fraternal life shared between young and old.

Work is framed by praise and the Eucharist.

Programme

Session schedule

  • 9:00 AM: Praise
  • 9:30 AM: Teaching, personal time
  • 11:55 AM: Mass, meal in silence or with music
  • 2:30 PM or 3:00 PM: Praise, teaching, accompaniment, personal time
  • 7:00 PM: Dinner
  • 8:30 PM: Evening gathering or Compline

Practical information

Summer Work Retreat, Monday July 20 at 7:00 PM to Sunday July 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM - Welcome from 6:30 PM

Please let us know whether you will be arriving by train or by car. We may be able to pick you up at the tram stop (the round-trip tram-Thumenau car transfer is estimated at 10 €); please notify us as soon as possible.

  • Option to rent bed linens and/or towels (5 €).
  • A meal is served upon arrival. If you have a dietary requirement, please notify us and send an up-to-date medical certificate as soon as possible. (The house does not provide gluten-free bread.)
  • Suggested daily cost: Adults (15 and older) 30 €, or 180 € for the full retreat; children (up to 14 years old) 15 €, or 90 € for the full retreat; 2nd child 70 €, 3rd child 50 €.
  • Please bring your Bible and something to write with.
  • Also bring your cloth napkin and napkin ring.
  • If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know.

Registration is final only upon receipt of a 50 € deposit (which you can pay by sending a check made out to Centre d'accueil de la Thumenau, or online via the Puits de Jacob website by clicking here). However, please notify us of any cancellation as soon as you have received our registration confirmation.

Getting there

Train

Strasbourg train station, then take the Tram (Campus d'Illkirch station): the community can then pick you up at the tram station, otherwise bus from the tram station. Another option: Erstein station from where you can also take the bus to the Thumenau stop or request pickup.
