Who are the Religious of the Assumption of Lyon?

The Community of the Assumption was founded in Paris by the very young Marie Eugénie Milleret (1817-1898) on April 30, 1839. Immediately dedicated to the education of young girls, the community grew very rapidly and is present on almost every continent. Recognized as a saint by the Church, Marie Eugénie was beatified in 1975 and canonized in 2007.

As missionaries, the Sisters of the Assumption don't just pray! Following the Rule of Saint Augustine, their days are balanced between prayer and work. Committed daily to a fraternal life of joy and simplicity, the Sisters of the Assumption are present and involved in parishes, neighborhood associations, and schools, all pathways and means to build a more just society!

Today, the congregation has 1,100 religious spread across 33 countries. In France, there are 130 religious distributed in 12 communities. In total, and just for France, they are responsible for nearly 16,000 students, three guest houses, and two student residences!

The arrival in the Croix Rousse neighborhood of Lyon

The Congregation of the Religious of the Assumption has been present in Lyon for 150 years and in the Croix Rousse neighborhood for about ten years.

The sisters participate in the mission of the Assumption Lyon schools, particularly through teaching, listening to students, pastoral activities, and supporting teams. The sisters also run a residence for eight female students living in the house. Additionally, six young professionals live on-site in a "Laudato si" shared living arrangement with the sisters.

The sisters are engaged in various ways in the neighborhood (visits, spiritual guidance...). Involved in parish and diocesan activities, the community regularly hosts scout activities and retreats.
