Frequently asked questions

Who are abbey stays for?

Anyone, regardless of their faith or beliefs, is welcome in these places.

Do I have to attend the divine offices (prayers) during my retreat?

Generally, you are invited to participate in one office during the day, but there is no obligation! Feel free to share this concern with the community when you get in touch.

What should I bring for my retreat?

At an abbey, meals and accommodation are usually provided. So no need to worry about sheets, towels, or snacks (which are often excellent on site, by the way)!

How much does it cost?

A monastery stay is a time of retreat in silence, organized according to each community's reception and accommodation arrangements, typically lasting a few days on average. Retreatants are generally invited to participate in the divine offices, and spiritual guidance is often available. Guest houses vary in size and offer simple but adequate facilities for basic comfort. Staying in a monastic guest house involves helping with daily tasks, such as making your bed or helping with dishes, as well as a free-will contribution to expenses, with a suggested amount provided by each community. Based on these guidelines, guests are generally invited to leave a free-will offering at the end of their retreat, according to their means.

What is the purpose of a spiritual retreat?

There are many reasons to go on a spiritual retreat. Whether it is to rest, discover a beautiful place, recharge, pray, and more. Feel free to contact a community beforehand if you have any questions.

What is a spiritual retreat?

A spiritual retreat is a true break from daily life. The setting offered by abbeys and monasteries is conducive to contemplation and renewal.

They tried it for you

« We went as a couple for a weekend at Jouarre Abbey. After 30 years of marriage, this stay helped us strengthen our love. A wonderful welcome, a peaceful place, in short, everything was given to us so we could refocus on our relationship! We especially recommend it to all couples. »
« I went to study for my medical exams at Champagne Abbey. The place is ideal for that. I was able to work in a setting full of beauty and space, talk with monks, and recharge whenever I wanted, even participating in the community's manual tasks. Thank you to them. »
« I went to Lagrasse Abbey for four days after having already spent a week with friends in the area. I wasn't expecting much and was even a bit apprehensive, knowing that I'm not particularly religious. I went there to rest, in a place full of charm and calm, and that's exactly what happened! A wonderful experience of disconnecting and some great encounters along the way. I highly recommend it! »
