The history of the "little Lourdes of Nice"
Located at over 300 meters altitude, Notre-Dame de Laghet is a place rich in history. A small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, restored in 1625, became a place of miracles in the 17th century. In 1652, three extraordinary events took place, giving birth to a pilgrimage tradition.
The history of Notre-Dame de Laghet dates back to the 12th century, when the first chapel was erected on this site. Over the centuries, this humble chapel was restored and became an important Marian pilgrimage site. Today, while the chapel has preserved its old-world charm, it also witnesses numerous acts of devotion and faith.
Today, diocesan priests and a community of Benedictine nuns of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre ensure the animation of the sanctuary. The chapel, in Nice Baroque style, is a place of peace and meditation. Visitors express their gratitude to the Virgin of Laghet by offering ex-votos, small paintings or marble plaques.
Notre-Dame de Laghet continues to attract visitors from all backgrounds, seeking hope and comfort in this place with a rich history and soothing spirituality.
On site, the Benedictine community welcomes you
The Sanctuaire Notre-Dame de Laghet is currently accompanied by a balanced pastoral team, composed of four diocesan priests and Benedictine nuns of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre.
The nuns, following the Benedictine tradition, engage in prayer and adoration, while the diocesan priests offer their spiritual guidance and pastoral support.
Together, they ensure that visitors find comfort, prayer, and an authentic experience in this place steeped in history.
