Mont des Cats Abbey
Godewaersvelde Nord Founded in 1826
Mont des Cats Abbey, in the Nord department between Lille and Dunkerque, is home to a community of Trappist monks in the heart of Flanders. Heirs to the great Cistercian family born in 1098, they live according to the Rule of Saint Benedict an essentially contemplative life, in which personal and communal prayer holds a central place, alongside work and fraternal life. The brothers are known for producing their famous cheeses and run a shop offering monastic crafts and regional products.
Perched on the hill of Mont des Cats (164 m), nestled in lush greenery, the abbey stands as a true spiritual haven of Flanders. The monks invite you to a time of pause and renewal: sharing their prayer times, enjoying the silence of the place, praying, conversing, and contemplating, in a peaceful countryside setting conducive to inner peace.
