Abadia de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey of the Subiaco-Monte Cassino Congregation, located on the mountain of Montserrat, in the municipality of Monistrol de Montserrat (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain). Founded in 1025 by Abbot Oliba, the monastery became an independent abbey in 1409. Destroyed in 1811 and emptied by the disentailment of 1835, it was reoccupied by the monks in 1844.
The monks are the guardians of the sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat, patron of Catalonia, and of the Escolania, a boys' choir attested as early as the 13th century. The monastery's guest house welcomes individuals and groups seeking a time of silence, prayer, or study. The conventual Mass and the offices are open to the faithful.
