Benedictines Nuns
The Abadia de Nossa Senhora das Graças is an abbey of Benedictine nuns located in the Vila Paris neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It belongs to the Benedictine Congregation of Brazil. The community was founded in 1949 by the Abadia de Santa Maria de São Paulo, the first monastery of Benedictine nuns in the country.
The monastery was designed by architect Francisco Bologna, whose project was the subject of a study published by Docomomo Brasil. The abbey has itself given rise to new foundations: seven of its nuns founded the Mosteiro de Nossa Senhora do Monte in Olinda in 1963, and it accompanied the entry of the Petrópolis community into the Benedictine family.
