Benedictines Nuns
The Benedictines of Calvary monastery is located on rue Vauvert, in the center of Angers, in Maine-et-Loire. The congregation of Notre-Dame du Calvaire, which grew out of Fontevraud Abbey and was founded by Antoinette d'Orléans with Father Joseph du Tremblay, was established in Angers in 1619 with the support of Marie de Médicis.
The convent was built between 1620 and 1623 by the architect Vincent Camus. The church was blessed in 1651. The facades, roofs, and garden have been listed as historic monuments since 1964. The congregation today has four houses, including Angers. Visitors should contact the community directly for information on accommodations.
