Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God
West Springfield Founded in 1922
The Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God is an independent monastery of contemplative, cloistered Dominican nuns, located in West Springfield, Massachusetts, in the United States. The sisters follow the Rule of Saint Augustine and the Constitutions of the nuns of the Order of Preachers. The community was welcomed into the Diocese of Springfield on September 8, 1922, by Bishop Thomas Mary O'Leary, with Mother Mary Hyacinth as its foundress.
The life of the nuns is shaped by the choral office, Eucharistic adoration requested by the bishop as early as 1922, and papal enclosure. The chapel is open to the public during the day for silent prayer, and anyone may join the sisters for the sung Liturgy of the Hours. The community also accepts prayer intentions.
