Fraternité Sainte-Claire à Riez

RiezAlpes-de-Haute-Provence

Franciscans Nuns

In September 1973, Cardinal Marty asked contemplatives "to make available to the people of God educators of prayer and visible, accessible places of prayer." In response to this request, in 1975 three Poor Clare sisters arrived from the monastery of Nazareth (in Israel). Bishop Collin, bishop of Digne (at the time, head of the SDM) invited us to come to his diocese. We chose to restore, as Francis of Assisi did, a small 5th-century priory of the monks of Lérins, in Riez la Romaine, on the hill of Saint-Maxime. This place is a "communal property."

Today, four sisters live on the hill of Saint-Maxime with the desire to translate the way of life of Saint Clare for today. Our fraternity is rooted:

We draw our strength from relationships with small Poor Clare communities, with all the sisters of the PACA region and the federation, and from various internal and external formation programs.

The Fraternité Sainte-Claire à Riez is located in a tourist region, along a long-distance hiking trail (GR) and near a thermal spa.
