Monasterio Cisterciense de la Santa Cruz
Casarrubios del MonteSpain Founded in 1633
The Monasterio de la Santa Cruz is a monastery of Cistercian nuns located in Casarrubios del Monte, in the province of Toledo (Castille-La Mancha, Spain). It was founded in 1633 thanks to Alonso de Ojea and María Rodríguez, residents of the town. Its first Abbess, in 1634, was Mother María Evangelista Quintero Malfaz, born in Cigales in 1591, whose cause for beatification has been opened.
Of the original buildings, only the church survives. It houses the Cristo de la Sangre, a large Assumption painting from 1978, and images of Saint Benedict and Saint Bernard. The community supports itself through confectionery and artisanal preserves. Sources consulted make no mention of a guest house.
