Monasterio de San José (Dominicas de La Solana)

La SolanaSpain Founded in 1593

Nuns

The Monasterio de San José de La Solana is home to a community of contemplative Dominican nuns, a member of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario federation. It is located on calle Monjas, in La Solana, in the province of Ciudad Real, in Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). According to the community, the foundation was accepted in 1593 and became effective in 1596, around a hermitage dedicated to Saint Joseph, which is today the conventual church. The first Prioress came from the convent of Santa Catalina de Zafra, in Granada.

The sisters' life is organized around liturgy, study, and work. They produce handcrafted embroidery and traditional sweets, such as rosca de almendras. The DeClausura directory does not list a guest house for retreatants.
