Monasterio de San José y San Benito
Burgos Founded in 1601
The Monasterio de San José is home to Benedictine nuns in the San Pedro de la Fuente neighborhood of Burgos (Castille-et-León, Spain), ten minutes from the cathedral. Coming from Los Ausines, the community settled in 1601 in part of the former Hospital del Emperador. It ran a girls' school from the 19th century onward. In March 2026, the nuns of San Benito d'Estella joined them, and the house is now known as Monasterio de San José y San Benito.
Part of the building has been converted into a spirituality house, open to those who wish to combine silence with a visit to the city. The Divine Office (Lauds, Vespers, Compline) and daily Mass mark the rhythm of the day. The monastery belongs to the Congregación Monástica de Santa Hildegarda.
