Benedictines Monks

The Monasterio de San Salvador del Monte Irago is a house of Benedictine monks in Rabanal del Camino, in the province of León (Castilla y León, Spain), on the Way of Saint James, near the Monte Irago pass and the Cruz de Ferro. It was founded on February 2, 2001, as a dependency of the archabbey of Sankt Ottilien, in Bavaria. It takes its name from a church and a pilgrim hospital founded by the hermit Gaucelmo at the end of the 11th century.

The monks chant the Divine Office in Gregorian chant every day, with Vespers and Compline followed by a blessing of the pilgrims. They welcome pilgrims for a retreat of at least two nights, without reservation: visitors must present themselves at the monastery shop.
