Monastery of Saint Clare in Paray-le-Monial

Paray-le-MonialSaône-et-Loire

Franciscans Nuns

Eight Poor Clares arrived from the monastery of Périgueux on August 19, 1878, to found a new home of prayer near the Heart of Jesus. A small branch of the Franciscan tree rooted in the city of the Heart of Jesus: such is the distinctive character of the Monastère Sainte-Claire in Paray-le-Monial.

The community currently has 18 sisters, including one from Réunion, one Vietnamese, one Congolese from the DRC, and one Malagasy, and we have the joy of periodically welcoming an African or Malagasy sister for a time of renewal.
Our life as Poor Clares is woven together by prayer and work, fraternal life and intercession, in a world that meets us in our deepest questions. Diocese website.

Our chapel is open to all pilgrims who wish to share in our prayer: Mass is celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on weekdays and at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays; we sing Lauds at 7:00 a.m. every day and Vespers at 6:15 p.m. on weekdays, at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.

A few guest rooms allow us to welcome young people who wish to spend a time of retreat or to discover our monastic life, following in the footsteps of Saint Clare, who came to nestle in the wound of the Heart of Jesus like a dove in the hollow of the rock.

Our foundress was a missionary at heart, and the founding of the Sainte-Claire Monastery in Paray-le-Monial was followed by that of Nazareth and Jerusalem, among others. This missionary spirit lives on in the fraternal bonds we have forged with our sisters in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Vietnam, and Madagascar.
