Monestir de Santa Maria de Solius
Santa Cristina d'AroSpain Founded in 1967
The Monestir de Santa Maria de Solius is a conventual priory of Cistercian monks (Cistercian Order, Congregation of the Crown of Aragon) in Solius, in the municipality of Santa Cristina d'Aro, in the province of Girona, in Catalonia (Spain). It was founded in January 1967 by Edmond M. Garreta, former Abbot of Poblet, and a small group of monks from Poblet, in search of a simpler, more rural way of life.
The monastery was built around the former 18th-century parish church, which stands on the site of a Romanesque church. It is known for its exhibition of nativity scenes in dioramas and for its artisanal bookbinding workshop. The sources consulted make no mention of a guest house.
