Mosteiro de Nossa Senhora do Monte

Olinda Founded in 1963

Benedictines Nuns

The Mosteiro de Nossa Senhora do Monte is an abbey of Benedictine nuns located in the Bultrins neighborhood of Olinda, in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The current community was founded on August 15, 1963, by seven nuns from the Nossa Senhora das Graças Abbey in Belo Horizonte. It became a conventual priory four years later, then an abbey in 1974.

The monastery occupies the site of the Nossa Senhora do Monte hermitage, one of the oldest churches in Brazil, already mentioned in the Olinda charter of 1537 and entrusted to Benedictine monks in 1596. The church retains 17th-century portals and a restored high altar. A restoration project was launched in 2026.
