Benedictines Monks
The Mosteiro de São Bento de Garanhuns is a conventual priory of Benedictine monks of the Congregação Beneditina do Brasil, located in Garanhuns, in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Founded on April 2, 1940 as the congregation's claustral school, it became in 1966 a priory dependent on the abbey of Olinda, then an autonomous conventual priory in 1986.
The monks celebrate the office and Mass every day. A guest house built in the 1980s welcomes guests for retreats and to discover monastic life. The church, dating from the 1990s, is the work of artist Claudio Pastro. The shop sells the monks' breads, wafers, and liqueurs, as well as icons and books.
