Mosteiro do Salvador
Salvador Founded in 1981
The Mosteiro do Salvador is a monastery of Benedictine nuns belonging to the Congregação Beneditina do Brasil, located in the Coutos neighborhood, in the railway suburbs of Salvador, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. It was founded in 1977 at the request of Cardinal Avelar Brandão Vilela by nuns from the monastery of Belo Horizonte. Initially established in the Brotas neighborhood, the community moved to Coutos in 1981. Its patronal feast is the Transfiguration, on August 6.
The office is sung in Gregorian chant, accompanied by the zither. The monastery welcomes guests for spiritual retreats in its guest house. It supports the Associação São Francisco de Assis, managed by lay people serving the residents of the neighborhood.
