Mosteiro São José
Mineiros
Benedictines Monks
Mosteiro São José is a priory of Benedictine monks located in Mineiros, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, in the diocese of Jataí. It was founded in the early 1960s, in response to the call of Pope John XXIII, by three monks from Saint Benedict's Abbey in Atchison, Kansas, of which it remains a dependent priory.
The community today is made up entirely of Brazilian monks. They work primarily in one of the city's parishes and in education. The priory has given three bishops to the Church in Brazil. The sources consulted do not describe any accommodation of retreatants.
