Benedictines Monks

The Priorato de Nuestra Señora de Montserrat is a priory of Benedictine monks dependent on the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos, calle San Bernardo, in Madrid, Spain. It dates back to 1640, when Castilian monks from Montserrat left Catalonia for Madrid. Abandoned by the Benedictines in 1823 and 1835, the building subsequently served as a women's prison.

Declared a national monument in 1914, it was returned in stages to the monks of Silos beginning in 1918. They did not settle there permanently until 1953, after the civil war. The church, restored at the end of the twentieth century, is open for worship. The sources consulted make no mention of a guest house.
