Saint John the Baptist Monastery of Joffreville

JoffrevilleMadagascar Founded in 1975

Benedictines Sisters

The Saint John the Baptist Monastery of Joffreville is a priory of Benedictine sisters of the congregation of Sainte-Bathilde, located on the heights above Diego Bay, in northern Madagascar. In 1975, at the request of Bishop Tsiahoana, the monastery of Ambositra sent four sisters, who were first housed in a village home. In 1994, the community moved to a site overlooking the bay. It was established as a simple priory in 2003.

The liturgy and the Eucharist are open to all. The guest house welcomes retreatants, individually or in groups, and the Foyer Saint-Benoît can accommodate one hundred people for sessions. A shop offers the monastery's products, Malagasy crafts, and books.
