Sainte-Claire Monastery in Montbrison
MontbrisonLoire Founded in 1500
Sainte-Claire Monastery in Montbrison was founded in 1500 by Pierre II d'Urfé.
The community has continued without interruption through the Wars of Religion, the plague, three fires, and the Revolution, supported and sustained by the people of the town and surrounding villages.
Since 1821, the sisters have been established in a former Capuchin convent, where they continue their mission at the heart of the Church and the diocese.
We are of various nationalities, diverse social and cultural backgrounds, and different ages, but we share a common love of God and a common way of life.
We each work according to our abilities and strength to support ourselves and serve our sisters, while also trusting in Providence to help us where work alone is not enough.
We live apart from the world and in silence, yet we welcome the many people who come to share their sorrows and concerns with us, as well as those who wish to spend a few days on retreat with the community.
