Visitation Monastery of Thonon-les-Bains

Since its foundation, the Monastery was located on rue des Granges in Thonon les Bains; in 1968, to enable the city of Thonon to carry out its renovation plan, the community acquired land in Marclaz where it was transferred. In 1988, it was decided to create a medicalized infirmary at the heart of the Marclaz Monastery, making it possible to welcome and care for elderly or ill Sisters, thus offering them the opportunity to continue their monastic life in a setting better suited to their situation.
At the same time, the Marclaz community is composed of sisters who had to leave their original monastery due to closures; several generations and nationalities live together there

Today, the site has changed function and houses a cultural center bringing together a media library, a music and dance school, an exhibition space for contemporary art in the former chapel, as well as a learned society.
