Listening to God to encounter him better
At the heart of religions runs a common claim: to see God.
And yet "God, no one has ever seen him: the Only Son, he who is God, is the one who made him known" (John 1:18).
The misunderstanding was total since they nailed him to a cross. 3 days to enter into the paradox of faith: the Crucified Christ is the wisdom and glory of God.
- As with Adam, as with Jesus, the tempter presents us with false images of God.
- Let go of all our "yes buts" and humbly practice "that is why".
- Examine the life of Jesus, all of Jesus' life, to try to glimpse the face of God.
- The cross, a healing source for the purification of our faith.
- Idolatry is the worship of a representation of divinity, to the point where the image becomes God.
- The history of Jewish and Christian faith is an obstinate struggle against idolatries of all kinds.
- The biblical tradition is centered on listening. The God of Sinai is a God who speaks and whose great desire is to enter into conversation with his children, but like Adam, they hide and turn their heads away.
- This great desire becomes reality in the very person of Jesus: "the Word made flesh". From then on, everything, absolutely everything about Jesus tells us about God. Our images of God become weak and insignificant before the unexpected, the paradoxical, even the unheard of. The Spirit leads us into an asceticism of all our images of God.
