A Trappist retreat in the heart of rural Northern California

In the peaceful countryside of Northern California, the Abbey of Our Lady of New Clairvaux is home to a community of Cistercian monks of the Strict Observance, commonly known as Trappists. Following the Rule of Saint Benedict, the monks live a contemplative life centered on prayer, silence, work and community.

The Abbey welcomes men and women who wish to step away from the noise and busyness of everyday life for a few days of silence and spiritual renewal. Retreats are self-guided: there is no imposed program, leaving each guest free to pray, read, walk, rest and participate in the monastic offices. Spiritual direction or confession with a monk may also be requested.

Surrounded by orchards and vineyards, New Clairvaux offers a particularly peaceful setting in which to slow down, listen and rediscover the value of silence.
