Monastery of the redemptoristine nuns of Sainte-Thérèse
Sainte-Thérèse Founded in 1963
In the heart of Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, in the diocese of Saint-Jérôme, the monastery of the Redemptoristine nuns is home to a small contemplative community that has been present in the city since 1963. Founded in 1731 in Scala, Italy, by Marie Céleste Crostarosa and Saint Alphonsus Liguori, the Redemptoristines belong to an order centered on prayer and the remembrance of Christ. Their vocation is to be a praying presence at the heart of the world, a living memory of redeeming Love. Their daily life is organized around liturgical prayer (five offices per day), manual or intellectual work, and times of silence, rest, and meditation.
Easily accessible, about twenty minutes from Laval and thirty to forty minutes from Montreal, the monastery offers a rare balance between urban life and monastic calm. The nuns welcome those who wish to spend time with them in prayer and silence. A private garden provides opportunities for contemplative walks.
