A haven of peace in Loire-Atlantique

Nestled on the Jade Coast in Pornic, the Domaine de Monval is a privileged Christian retreat site for those seeking to find renewal by the sea.

Set in a wooded park of 4 hectares with direct access to the coastal path, this 19th-century manor offers a unique setting for rest, contemplation and prayer in Loire-Atlantique.

Built in 1855 at the initiative of Father Pétard, then vicar of Clion-sur-Mer, Monval has passed through the centuries, successively becoming a private residence, an outdoor center, then a vacation house for the priests of the Diocese of Nantes.

In recent years, the house has opened to the public, allowing everyone to benefit from this exceptional site while contributing to the maintenance of the estate.

The spirit of Monval: simplicity, prayer and hospitality

A couple on Church mission for the Diocese of Nantes welcomes you on site.

During the summer, Lauds are sung each morning in the chapel for those who wish. Mass is celebrated depending on the presence of resident priests.

The chapel houses the Real Presence in the tabernacle, allowing everyone to come for a time of personal prayer or contemplative prayer in silence.

In a family and fraternal spirit, guests are invited, if they can, to participate in the simple daily tasks: setting the table, drying dishes, maintaining their room. During the summer, it is also possible to help pick apples from the orchard or peel vegetables.

Geography and activities

Activities and nature: an environment conducive to retreat

The wooded 4-hectare park offers numerous spaces to sit, meditate, contemplate. A few steps are enough to reach the coastal path directly, walk along the wild coast or stroll on the beaches at low tide.

The region is also popular with fans of shore fishing, particularly for gray shrimp. The ocean view invites relaxation, silence and prayer.

Discovering Pornic and its surroundings

The Domaine de Monval is located 4 km from the charming town of Pornic and 3 km from the seaside resort of La Bernerie-en-Retz.

  • The port of Pornic is one of the most charming on the Atlantic coast, with its colorful boats and characterful streets. After a stroll, stop at La Fraiseraie, a local institution, to savor artisanal ice cream made with regional strawberries.

  • From the Domaine de Monval, there is direct access to the coastal path. This walk follows the cliffs, coves and beaches of the Jade Coast. It is the ideal activity for a contemplative walk, a time of silence or simply to admire the maritime panoramas.

  • Overlooking the ria, the castle of Pornic (13th century) is an emblem of the town. After the visit, you can board a boat ride along the coast, between coves, fishing huts and islands. A moment that is both cultural and restorative.

  • The Vélocéan bike path passes right in front of the estate, allowing you to explore the region by bicycle with ease.
